A loft refers to the space found directly below the roof of a building, often used for storage, insulation, or, if converted, living space. It plays a crucial role in the thermal efficiency of a property. Insulating the loft can significantly reduce heat loss, hence lowering heating bills and creating a more comfortable living environment. Moreover, a well-maintained loft can provide a barrier to prevent moisture and cold air intrusion into the living spaces below.

From a damp perspective, loft insulation is often poorly laid when installed, or moved by electricians, plumber etc. when making repairs in the loft. Insulation imbalance can lead to zone of heat loss resulting in high surface relative humidity, condensation and mould.
